Unit 1

🔢 Counting & Numbers

We count by ones. Numbers go in order: 1, 2, 3, 4 … all the way to 20 and beyond!

Remember: When counting forward, each number is 1 more than the one before it. When counting backward, each number is 1 less.

➕ Addition

Adding means putting groups together to find the total. The + sign means "and".

How to add: Start with the bigger number and count up. For 5 + 3: start at 5, then count 3 more → 6, 7, 8! ✨

➖ Subtraction

Subtracting means taking away. The − sign means "take away".

How to subtract: Start with the big number and count back. For 10 − 3: start at 10, count back 3 → 9, 8, 7!

🔷 Shapes

2D shapes are flat. We describe them by counting their sides (straight lines) and corners (where two sides meet).

🔺 Triangle — 3 sides, 3 corners · 🟥 Square — 4 equal sides, 4 corners · ⬛ Rectangle — 4 sides, 4 corners · ⚪ Circle — curved, 0 sides, 0 corners

Unit 5

❓ Missing Numbers

Sometimes we know the total but need to find a missing part. We can work backwards to find the mystery number!

Tip: For ___ + 3 = 8: think "what do I add to 3 to make 8?" Try 5: 5 + 3 = 8 ✓
