Unit 1

๐Ÿ”ข Counting & Numbers

We count by ones. Numbers go in order: 1, 2, 3, 4 โ€ฆ all the way to 20 and beyond!

Remember: When counting forward, each number is 1 more than the one before it. When counting backward, each number is 1 less.
1, 2, 3, 4 โ€ฆโ†’what comes next? 5! โญ
Q 1

Count the red dots above. How many are there?

Q 2

What number comes after 13?

Q 3

What number comes before 17?

Count back one from 17: 16!
Unit 2

โž• Addition

Adding means putting groups together to find the total. The + sign means "and".

How to add: Start with the bigger number and count up. For 5 + 3: start at 5, then count 3 more โ†’ 6, 7, 8! โœจ
7 + 4=11 ๐ŸŽฏ
Q 4

6 + 5 = ?

Q 5

8 + 7 = ?

Start at 8. Count up 7 more: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15!
Q 6

9 + 9 = ?

Unit 3

โž– Subtraction

Subtracting means taking away. The โˆ’ sign means "take away".

How to subtract: Start with the big number and count back. For 10 โˆ’ 3: start at 10, count back 3 โ†’ 9, 8, 7!
14 โˆ’ 6=8 ๐ŸŽฏ
Q 7

12 โˆ’ 5 = ?

Q 8

16 โˆ’ 8 = ?

Think: 8 + ? = 16. What do you add to 8 to get 16?
Q 9

20 โˆ’ 7 = ?

Unit 4

๐Ÿ”ท Shapes

2D shapes are flat. We describe them by counting their sides (straight lines) and corners (where two sides meet).

Shapes to know:
๐Ÿ”บ Triangle โ€” 3 sides, 3 corners  ยท  ๐ŸŸฅ Square โ€” 4 equal sides, 4 corners  ยท  โฌ› Rectangle โ€” 4 sides, 4 corners  ยท  โšช Circle โ€” curved, 0 sides, 0 corners
Q 10

๐Ÿ”บ How many sides does a triangle have?

Q 11

๐ŸŸฅ How many corners does a square have?

Q 12

โšช How many sides does a circle have?

A circle is perfectly round with no straight edges at all!
Unit 5

โ“ Missing Numbers

Sometimes we know the total but need to find a missing part. We can work backwards to find the mystery number!

Tip: For ___ + 3 = 8: think "what do I add to 3 to make 8?" Try 5: 5 + 3 = 8 โœ“
___ + 4 = 9โ†’5 + 4 = 9 โœ“
Q 13

___ + 3 = 8   What is the missing number?

Q 14

9 โˆ’ ___ = 4   What is the missing number?

Think: 9 โˆ’ ? = 4. What do you take away from 9 to get 4?
Q 15

6 + ___ = 10   What is the missing number?

6 + ? = 10. Start at 6 and count up to 10. How many steps?
